The only way to drive traffic to your site is to build backlinks. The only way to build backlinks is slowly, through a variety of channels. Some people pay for theirs, but the real thrifty ones know how to build an entire network of backlinks for absolutely no money. Here’s five ways you can do it too.
1. Squidoo: Squidoo lets you create lenses, which are short informative pages on just about anything. Accounts are free and you get to make as many pages as you like. Create Squidoo lenses about your topic and load them with keywords.
2. Blogger: Blogger.com is a great place to set up a free blog on any topic. Since Google owns it, accounts are free, space is plentiful, and you get as many blogs as you can handle. Create a related blog, then post away. Keyword loading and anchor text links are easy enough to do, so take advantage of the free links from a related blog.
3. Google Sites: OK, so Google Sites is no longer actively accepting members, but if you’ve been in the business for a little while, you’ll probably have one. Time to get it out from under the bed, dust it off, and fire it up. Current members can create multiple accounts, each with its own subdomain. With that much flexibility, simple websites related to your topic are easy to throw up, load with great keywords and content, and then plaster it with links to your site that’s going to make you money.
4. Submit Articles to Directories: Whether you already use article submission as a tool or not, it’s worth revisiting the benefits of this wonderful tool. Most article directories allow you to place a link at the bottom of each article so that if someone likes it, they can check out your site, which presumably is related to the topic they searched in the first place.
5. WordPress: Pretty much the industry standard, WordPress is another blog network with flexibility to spare in the way it lets you set up pages. Use WordPress to set up multiple blogs in the same field. Keywords go into the name of the blog, which makes search engine optimization work better; plus outgoing links will really beef up your site’s backlink network.
Building up backlinks for free is a very easy to do and quite rewarding. Simply fill the Internet with quality content, lots of exposure, and you’ve got it covered. Patience is the hardest part, but once you’ve got that licked, you can enjoy the traffic that is steered your way.
